MANILA, Philippines – Megastar Sharon Cuneta, together with her husband former opposition Senator Kiko Pangilinan proved that indeed, there are no permanent enemies in politics when they exchanged pleasantries with President Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Marcos during the “Konsyerto sa Palasyo” event in Malacañang last Sunday (December 15).
In an Instagram post, the singer-actress posted a series of photos of her with the President and the four of them altogether.
Pangilinan, who ran for vice president in the 2022 elections, and his running mate former Vice President Leni Robredo, were Marcos’ fiercest rivals. Marcos’ running mate was now Vice President Sara Duterte.
But for the megastar, it was “Nothing but love…and other friends!!!”
She also recalled him telling her “(Mr. President: “Anytime you feel like it just come here!”💖💖💖)
Cuneta, who has long been friends with the Marcoses, shared a few memories she had with the family during her growing years.
“A bit of trivia for you: The very first time I saw a disco was at 14, in Malacañang. Saw Pope Paul VI in Malacañang,” she said.
“Had so many merienda/dinners with The President’s father and mother in Malacañang as we used to campaign for them. Spent a whole afternoon and evening with the President’s parents at their home in Hawaii. Had dinner with President, BBM and the FL in their home in Ilocos. Madame Imelda was a Principal Sponsor at GC’s and my wedding, & it was Pres. Marcos, Sr. who stayed at our party for hours! So many memories,” she said.
But her favorite in their family, she said, has always been “Pres. BBM.”
“When we arrived tonight, I got the warmest hug from the FL, like no time had passed! And then of course, the warmest, biggest hug from the President. With some side kwento, just like old times!” She said.
“Thank you so much again, Mr. President and Madam First Lady!💖💖💖🥰🎄🙏🏻 #oldfriends,” she said.
Former rivals
This scene surely would not be possible two years back. The two tandems went neck and neck in the 2022 elections collecting seas of crowds in every rally.
Pangilinan has always been a vocal critic of the Marcos family.
He would slam the BBM-Sara tandem whenever the two would skip debates. He was among the many who blasted the surprise burial of the President’s father, the late dictator, at the Libingan ng mga Bayani which he said made the Philippines a laughingstock of the world.
In 2016, Robredo beat Marcos in the vice presidency prompting the former to file an election protest. The case was junked by the Supreme Court in 2021. Pangilinan said this decision affirms that the cheating allegations were baseless.
After Marcos’ win, the former lawmaker however said he has no problem supporting the Marcos government if programs are good.
Cuneta meanwhile was embroiled in a tangled twist of fate when her husband ran against uncle and second father, former Senate President Tito Sotto III.
