KIDS were joyful when they received trumpets, candies, and biscuits distributed by members of Kapatirang Siklistang Pilipino as they rode their bikes together in the community area at Marikina City despite the intense rain.

Some 72 KSP members joined their third annual campaign, “Iwas Paputok,” also known as Pepe’s Bicycle gathered at the parking lot of Marikina City Hall before they proceeded to three target areas for the distribution of toys and candy.

Toy and goodies drives are a unique way to make kids happy, especially those from underprivileged areas that don’t often have toys, says Jun Aquino, Team leader of Marikina Siklistang Pilipino.

Although the Marikina KSP chapter initiated the event and asked for donations from some local philanthropists in the city, he gladly thanked them for bringing joy to the children.

Several bikers from Bacoor in Cavite province also brought some gifts for the children as they covered the 35.8-kilometer distance to Marikina. KSP Manila chapter also brings with them Torotot and assorted candies.

The young people in Salvador Compound, Libis Bulelak, Barangay Malanday, and Balubad Settlement Area, Nangka, received toys from the cyclists. Cyclists were assisted by the barangay officials in the said areas when they organized the line of children.

Every time the cyclists leave the area, the children’s excitement is evident as they blow their trumpets almost simultaneously, reverberating throughout the neighborhood. “I can say that another successful event has been organized by the team, and the joy and cooperation of every one were present,” one of the founders of KSP and Bikers for Leni, Zosimo Forte, said.
