MANILA, Philippines – Putting aside politics, crimes and other sensationals, one word fittingly describes 2024 – heart breaking.
Indeed, 2024 wasn’t too far behind past years that saw the most painful showbiz break-ups. In fact, whoever couple we had faith would forge on, also let go.
Having witnessed soft launches, to early denials, to hard launches, even cryptic posts all endeared us to these famous love birds. But their break-up is something we certainly weren’t prepared for.
Thanks to the internet, eagle-eyed netizens were able to be part of showbiz’s most sensationals love stories that ended this year.
Let’s take a rundown of 2024’s most heart-breaking showbiz break-ups.

This is that one break-up we all prayed never to see.
Model Kim Jones and ultimate leading man Jericho Rosales were a match made in fairytale. The two started dating in 2011 and finally tied the knot in 2014. Rumors of break-up have been circulating since 2022 but the two have been quashing the rumors. They kept a good front in public.
Now, Rosales has gone public in dating actress Janine Gutierrez. They spent Christmas together.

We all rejoiced when actress Bea Alonzo found love again in actor Dominic Roque. After a much sensationalized break-up with ex Gerald Anderson and that long “ghosting” saga, she deserved a love that would last.
Rumors started circulating in July 2021 that the two have been dating. It was August when Bea herself admitted their relationship. In 2023, she even candidly talked about wanting to have a baby with Dominic.
Engagement rumors followed and not long after, Dominic proposed to Bea on July 18, 2023 in Las Casas in Quezon City.
Their wedding was expected to take place this year however break-up rumors started making rounds online. True enough, Bea admitted in an interview that the engagement was called off in January but was only announced a month later.
She clarified that the split was mutual and no one was at fault.

Another queen lost her prince.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and singer-actor Sam Milby had a relationship that many believed will last.
Just like everyone, Sam congratulated Catriona when she won the country’s fourth Miss Universe crown.
It was in 2019 when first sightings of them together were noticed. In 2020 the two confirmed their relationship. The actor even said Catriona is “the one.”
In February 2023, they got engaged but in February 2024, their management Cornerstone Entertainment released a statement that the two are facing a challenge in their relationship which eventually led to their break-up.

Another marriage gone wrong was that of Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez.
Their story started all the way back to 2010 when the two became part of defunct Sunday variety program “Party Pilipinas.” In 2012, they were paired in the series “Makapiling Kang Muli.”
Soon after, they posted photos of travels together and in January of 2013, rumors about Sarah’s pregnancy made rounds online.
January 2014 their eldest son Zion was born.
In 2015 they said getting married is indeed in the plan and not long after, they got engaged.
They welcomed their second baby in March 2018 and got married in 2020. After rumors of problems and separation besetting the two, the two indeed confirmed their break-up last March.
Richard is now rumored to be in a relationship with Kapamilya actress Barbie Imperial.

Arguably one of the most controversial break-ups of 2024 has to be that of Maris Racal and Rico Blanco.
They were OPM’s golden couple. He was the rock icon and she was a booming young singer. Together, they share a 25-year age gap.
It was March 2019 when rumors of them sharing sweet music first circulated when Maris greeted Rico on his 48th birthday. In May of the same year, they confirmed their relationship.
However in July of 2024, Maris emotionally admitted that they were over. Fast forward to December, the singer said on national television that she broke up with Rico because she fell for co-star Anthony Jennings.

It was June 2021 when netizens started speculating that the two might be romantically linked to each other. By December of the same year, Kyline admitted that indeed they are together.
However in 2023 controversy started hounding their relationship and rumors of them having separated was the talk on social media. What ignited the rumors is the supposed barb trade between the young actress and Mavy’s mom, actress Carmina Villaroel.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, she said she’s learned a lot in her past romance with Mavy.

After ten years of being together, comedy queen Aiai delas Alas and Gerald Sibayan have finally split.
Aiai and Gerald faced massive criticism for being romantically linked to each other despite a three decade age gap. But for a time, the two proved age is just a number until it became an actual factor in their break-up.
Back in September 2014, Gerald was a sports science student at the De La Salle University where her son Sancho also studied.
During this time, the actress was already speaking about age not being a matter in love. In April 2017 the two got engaged and in December of the same year got married. Prior to her marriage to Gerald, Aiai was married twice, first to actor Miguel Vera and then to Jed Salang.
They flew to the US in 2021 to start a life as husband and wife away from the public eye. They even renewed their vows in 2022.
In April of this year the two still celebrated their 10th year anniversary but in November, the actress confirmed that indeed, they are now over.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, the “Tanging Ina” star said Gerald wanted to have kids which she, who is already 60 years old, could no longer give him.

After five years of relationship, Victorias City Mayor Javi Benitez and actress Sue Ramirez have finally called it quits.
In lengthy Instagram stories in November, Benitez himself confirmed the break-up that according to him already happened four months before his admission.
He said he looked back at their five years together with love and gratitude.
