MANILA, Philippines – The run of the 50th Metro Manila FIlm Festival is officially extended until January 14 according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” MMDA Chairman Don Artes said in a statement Monday.
The annual year-ender film festival is usually given a theatrical run from December 25 until January 7 and no foreign films are allowed screen run.
Within the one-week extension, complimentary tickets are also still honored. Artes is also hopeful that the MMFF’s earnings will still increase with the extension.

Proceeds from the MMFF will be distributed to various film beneficiaries such as the
Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
Judy Ann Santos won Best Actress for “Espantaho” while Dennis Trillo won Best Actor for “Green Bones” at the recently concluded Gabi ng Parangal.
