MANILA, Philippines – The overall safety and security of all devotees in all the days leading to the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9 is now “all systems go.”
This is the assurance of P/Brig. General Arnold Thomas C. Ibay as devotees continue to flock to Quiapo Church to participate in the activities prior to the Traslacion.
“As of now all systems go na tayo, nagkaroon na tayo ng final coordinating conference at natackle na lahat doon yung mga paghahanda natin,” he said in an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo.
Apart from the Manila Police District, personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) as well as all available resources of the City of Manila will all work together to secure a peaceful and orderly execution of the Traslacion.
Ibay said about 12,500 police personnel are deployed throughout the routes of the procession. An additional 2,000 personnel from the AFP, PCG, BFP and BJMP boosting the total security force to 14,500 will also be deployed to the procession.
The procession this year will maintain the same route as last year from Quirino Grandstand all the way back to Quiapo Church spanning 5.8 kilometers, passing through three plazas and parks; one underpass; six bridges; and 18 national and city roads.
Feast organizers said 12 prayers stations were set up along the procession route.
Ibay also reminded the devotees to eat first before heading off to the Nazareno festivities and refrain from drinking liquor before attending the procession.
“Yan ang isa sa mga nagiging problema pag umiikot tayo. Napapansin natin na merong mga lasing na debotong pumupunta,” Ibay said.
The area around Quiapo and all the entire route of the procession is also declared a no fly zone and no sail zone area.
