Vic Sotto and Darryl Yap
MANILA, Philippines – Displaying his ever usual sarcastic stance, controversial director Darryl Yap seemed just quite unbothered that comedian Vic Sotto, deliberately named in his film teaser as the one who supposedly “raped” ‘80s starlet Pepsi Paloma, is preparing a legal retaliation over him.
On Wednesday, news came out that Sotto, after days of silence following the release of “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” teaser, is formally filing a case against Yap.
But instead of fighting back, Yap shared the news report about Sotto’s filing as well as a screenshot of the advisory inviting members of the media to cover the filing at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial court on Thursday, January 9.
In a Facebook post made on January 6, Yap made a remark about Sotto’s name being mentioned in the teaser.
“About Sir Vic Sotto, I’m not sure whether to offer an apology for his name being mentioned in the film,” Yap said.
Yap reasoned that stories like this will always make their way back into the spotlight and as a filmmaker, his only job is to tell it as it is.
“I believe there’s an understanding that stories like this will inevitably resurface.”
“My role as a filmmaker isn’t to pass judgment or provoke—it’s to tell the story as it happened, with honesty and respect for the facts.”
“I trust that those who will watch the film will see it for what it is: an attempt to shed light on a controversy that refuses to be forgotten,” Yap said.
Richie D’Horsie’s son also expressed intention to file a case against Yap.
