MANILA, Philippines – It isn’t just comedian Vic Sotto who’s primarily affected with his name’s mention in the controversial upcoming Pepsi Paloma film, his wife Pauleen Luna-Sotto gets rape threats and his 7-year old daughter daughter Tali gets bullied at school.
“Sa ngayon nakatanggap ng rape threats yung asawa niya, binubully ‘yung kanyang anak sa eskwela, so kailangan umaksyon talaga,” Lawyer Enrique dela Cruz told the media on Thursday after Sotto formally filed his complaint at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court.
“Kung babasahin niyo yung mga comments sa mga posts,” he said.
The teaser that deliberately named Sotto as allegedly having raped the late sexy star elicited various reactions online. Among them were curious netizens toying around the idea that Yap might have a different story direction in the movie.
However, having a different ending, even if it turns out favoring the complainant would be immaterial because in libel cases, said Dela Cruz.
“Sa libel cases kasi hindi ‘yung intention ng writer o ng author ang mahalaga kung hindi ang epekto niya sa iyong biktima,” Dela Cruz said.
“Na-ti-trigger ito dahil sa teaser video na inilabas. Whatever good intentions he might have, the effect is already there. Mayroong ipinost na defamatory sa aming kliyente at ‘yun ang amin inaksyunan,” he said.
Sotto filed 19 counts of cyber libel against Yap and his petition for a Writ of Habeas Data was granted by the Muntinlupa RTC ordering Yap to submit his answer to Sotto’s complaints within five days from the receipt.
