MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government has condemned the murder of a Filipina in Slovenia, following her visit to the country, where she was reportedly killed by her husband.

“The Philippine Government condemns the tragic incident that caused the demise of a Filipino citizen in Slovenia, and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family here in the Philippines,” the DFA said in a statement Thursday.

The Philippine Embassy in Vienna, alongside the DFA and other concerned agencies, is working with Slovenian authorities to repatriate Marvil’s remains to the Philippines after forensic procedures are completed.

”The Philippine Embassy in Vienna, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs, and other related agencies, is working with Slovenian authorities for the immediate shipment of her remains to the Philippines upon completion of all requisite forensic processes,” the DFA siad.

The foreign affairs bureau said that her husband, Mitja was implicated as the primary suspect in her killing and is now under the custody of Slovenian authorities.

The suspect is now under the custody of the authorities, and the Embassy is in communication with the mother of the victim,” said the DFA in a separate statement

Marvil was reportedly killed by Mitja, during their holiday tour in the resort town of Bled, Slovenia, on December 29 last year.

According to the DFA, the couple “had a fight” prior to the incident.
