MANILA, Philippines – Detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Apollo Quiboloy was admitted to a private hospital over the weekend due to difficulty in breathing, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said.

“The BJMP confirms that on Saturday, 18 January 2025, at around 5PM, PDL Apollo Quiboloy was brought to Rizal Medical Center (RMC) by BJMP-Pasig City Jail Male Dormitory,” BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera told the media.

“PDL Quiboloy complained of difficulty in breathing and the BJMP Physician recommended that the said PDL be brought to the nearest government hospital for appropriate medical intervention,” he said.

Bustinera said the attending RMC physician recommended hospital confinement to QUiboloy after being diagnosed with “community acquired pneumonia.”

“We assure the public that PDL Quiboloy remains under BJMP Custody and that strict security is in place while in hospital confinement,” Bustinera said.

Quiboloy is currently facing a non-bailable human trafficking case under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended. Last Monday, he personally appeared before the Pasig City Regional Trial Court to attend the hearing for bail motion over his qualified human trafficking case despite sickness.

His lawyer Israelito Carreon said he was about to file a motion seeking for his client to be excused because of excessive coughing.

Carreon said Quiboloy pushed to appear personally despite his sickness to prove his innocence.
