MANILA, Philippines – China called out to the Philippines to stop what they called “shadow-chasing” as well as peddling a so-called “Chinese spy” in view of the Chinese national recently caught in Manila doing alleged espionage activities in military camps and vital installations in the country.

“The Chinese government, as always, asks Chinese nationals overseas to abide by local laws and regulations… We hope the Philippines will stick to the fact, stop shadow-chasing, stop peddling the so-called ‘Chinese spy,’ and earnestly protect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals in the Philippines,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) , together with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Armed Forces of the Philippines presented arrested suspect Deng Yuanqing, an expert in control engineering affiliated with the PLA University Science and Technology, a prestigious research-oriented university operated by the People’s Liberation Army in China.

The Bureau of Immigration said they already obtained Deng’s records which they submitted to the NBI and the DOJ for investigation.

He, along with two other Filipino cohorts were said to have been visiting military camps, bases, power plants, offices of local government units, police camps, seaports, airports, and shopping malls frequently.

They also visited Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement sites and collated data transmitted and processed in a web of advanced technological infrastructure built within their subject vehicle and transmitted real time.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said he will answer China’s claims when he gets back from an official trip to Taiwan.
