MANILA, Philippines — Ride-hailing service platform Grab Philippines has cleared one of its driver-partners of allegations related to a public act of lasciviousness following a thorough investigation and meeting with the complainant’s family.

In an official statement on Monday night, Grab said its review of the Audio Protect recording from the trip, along with the driver’s profile and performance history, found “no conclusive evidence to support the allegations or indicate any malicious intent.”

Over the past week, a post by a college student went viral, accusing a Grab driver of masturbating after picking her up from school.

The driver was suspended but aired his sentiments online, stating he would never commit such acts, especially as he is a father of two daughters.

The complainant later deleted the post and deactivated her account after facing backlash from social media users.

The company met separately with the passenger’s family and the driver to present its findings.

“During these discussions, we listened to their concerns and provided support on issues that required clarification. We deeply appreciate their willingness to engage constructively in resolving the matter,” the company said.

The driver’s account has been reactivated, and Grab will compensate him for lost earnings during the suspension period.

“We understand the challenges faced by both passengers and driver-partners in such situations and remain committed to ensuring fairness and understanding,” it said.

Grab assured the public it takes such incidents seriously and is continuously improving its safety features and reporting mechanisms.

It likewise said that the ride-hailing platform will work closely with passengers, driver-partners, and law enforcement “to uphold the highest standards of safety, respect, and accountability.”

The company encouraged users to report concerns via its in-app tools and Help Center, saying these mechanisms ensure issues are resolved fairly and promptly.

“Grab Philippines remains dedicated to fostering a platform where both passengers and driver-partners feel valued, respected, and safe,” it said.
