The Magsasaka Partylist strongly condemned the shooting of their third party nominee Lejun Dela Cruz after his car was intercepted by an unidentified assailant this Sunday morning in Cainta, Rizal.

It was reported that two motorcycles with riders and a gray sedan went on shooting at the car of Lejun, a former officer of the Alex Boncayao Brigade (ABB).

Lejun sped the car he was driving and the armed group chased him. It was reported that Lejun immediately parked his car at the Pasig City Jail. The assailants stopped their pursuit.

Lejun is the son of Nilo Dela Cruz, commander of the ABB, an urban armed partisan or so-called communist hit squad. Lejun also served on the board of ABB until he returned to the rule of law more than two decades ago.

Magsasaka Partylist calls on the general public to remain vigilant and resolute in condemning political acts of harassment and violence.

According to Magsasaka Partylist the indiscriminate shooting is a direct attack on democracy and the constitutionally protected right to political participation and free expression.

According to them, this not only endangers the life and safety of Lejun but also instills fear in those who seek to serve the people through legitimate and democratic means.

The Magsasaka Partylist calls on the government for its commitment to uphold justice by quickly investigating this criminal act, identifying the perpetrators, and holding those accountable.
