MANILA, Philippines—Cambodia has committed to helping the Philippines strengthen its food security by supplying rice and other essential food products, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said.

During his meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on Tuesday, the Cambodian Prime Minister said that Cambodia is “ready” to help the Philippines achieve food security.

“In agriculture, Cambodia stands ready to contribute to the Philippine food security through rice supply as well as many other food products,” Hun Manet said in a joint press conference with Marcos.

The two leaders discussed agricultural trade, particularly rice supply, as the Philippines prepares for the potential impact of El Niño. The issue had previously been tackled during the 50th ASEAN-Australia Special Summit last year.

Aside from food security, Hun Manet also pushed for stronger tourism and connectivity between the two countries, inviting Philippine airlines to consider expanding flight routes to Cambodia.

“To support this initiative, Cambodia offers a new gateway to the world in our historical city of Angkor through our new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport and later this year in our vibrant capital, Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh,” he said.

The Cambodian leader welcomed the signing of eight agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two nations, expressing confidence that these will enhance bilateral relations.

Hun Manet also acknowledged the role of the Filipino community in Cambodia’s socio-economic growth and assured Marcos of Cambodia’s full support for the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2026.

The Philippines and Cambodia established diplomatic ties in 1957, with this year marking the 68th anniversary of their relations.
