MANILA, Philippines— The 76-year-old American man who gained attention for living inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has officially left the country, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Sunday.

BI records show that the man, whose name was not disclosed, arrived in the Philippines from Bangkok on January 31.

He was later reported to be residing inside NAIA Terminal 3, claiming that hotels were too expensive.

Airport authorities and concerned individuals took notice of his situation after he revealed to the media that he was a victim of theft.

Despite this, he still had some cash and relied on the generosity of airport workers and fellow passengers for sustenance.

The US Embassy in Manila was informed of his predicament and facilitated assistance.

The BI confirmed that he did not overstay his visa and departed for Bangkok on February 22.
