MANILA, Philippines—President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the country is eyeing to strengthen the Philippines’ ties with Slovenia and Palestine to promote peace and a rules-based international order amid current tensions.
The President made the statement as he received the credentials of Slovenian Ambassador-designate Smiljana Knez and Palestinian Ambassador-designate Mounir Y.K. Anastas in separate ceremonies at Malacañan Palace.
PH-Slovenia cooperation
Knez reaffirmed Slovenia’s commitment to upholding international law, stating, “Slovenia is a strong advocate of international law and the rules-based international order.”
Marcos said the Philippines shares Slovenia’s values, which serve as a strong foundation for deepening bilateral relations.
The Slovenian ambassador vowed to enhance cooperation between the two countries, including strengthening people-to-people ties.
“I will work tirelessly and cooperate closely with the government, business community, and cultural and scientific communities for the common benefit of both countries and peoples,” Knez said.
Slovenia is set to open an embassy in Manila to bolster cooperation. The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations since May 26, 1993, with Slovenia home to 462 Filipinos working in various sectors.
PH-Palestine relations
Meanwhile, Anastas conveyed Palestine’s commitment to continued partnership with the Philippines.
“We can work towards a future where peace, mutual understanding, and prosperity prevail. Let us continue to stand united in the pursuit of justice and equality not only for nations but for all humanity. May peace and solidarity guide our path forward,” he said.
Marcos echoed this sentiment, affirming shared values in promoting peace.
“Let us continue to work on the basis of our shared values, on basis of peace, and prosperity along the lines of international order and human rights for all in the entire world,” the President said.
The Philippines and Palestine established diplomatic relations in September 1989, marking 35 years of partnership.
