MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region (NCR) and parts of Central Luzon, including Nueva Ecija and Pampanga, are bracing for extreme temperatures on Tuesday, with the heat index forecasted to soar between 46 to 49 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its latest advisory, PAGASA identified Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, as the hottest area in the country, with an expected heat index of 49 degrees Celsius.

This places the province, along with other affected areas, under the “danger” category, which applies to heat indices ranging from 42 to 52 degrees Celsius.

Metro Manila is also set to endure intense heat, with temperatures expected to reach 46 degrees Celsius—matching the heat index recorded on Monday that prompted school suspensions.

Meanwhile, Clark, Pampanga, is forecasted to experience similar conditions.

Other Central Luzon areas under the danger category include Abucay, Bataan (44 degrees Celsius), and San Ildefonso, Bulacan (43 degrees Celsius).

PAGASA has warned that such extreme temperatures could lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke with prolonged exposure.

Schools, LGUs suspend face-to-face classes

Due to the extreme heat, several schools and local government units (LGUs) have opted to shift to online learning. The Manila City government has suspended in-person classes on Tuesday, urging schools to adopt alternative learning methods.

De La Salle University was among the first to announce the suspension of face-to-face classes, advising students and employees to transition to online platforms. However, personnel required for on-site operations—such as campus services, library staff, and finance offices—will continue reporting physically.

In Bataan, the towns of Abucay and Hermosa have also declared class suspensions due to the rising temperatures.

Authorities continue to monitor the heat situation and urge the public to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak hours.
