Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and CIDG Director Nicolas Torre III
MANILA, Philippines – “Huwag sana tayong magpakalasing sa power.”
This was the reminder of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to Criminal Investigation and Detection Director Nicolas Torre III following the latter’s arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte upon the warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the alleged crimes against humanity committed during his watch.
Dela Rosa cautioned Torre that his power is temporary and mouthing orders to the former president is simply “too much.”
“Because all these things shall pass. Walang forever dito. Temporary ‘yung power mo ngayon na sigang siga ka na kaya mong sabihan ‘yung former president na ‘hihilahin ko ‘yan, hihilahin ko ‘yan’ That’s too much. Hindi po forever na ikaw ay nasa poder,” dela Rosa said.
“Somehow, someday, you will step down from power and maramdaman mo ‘yan kung anong treatment sayo ng taumbayan,” Dela Rosa said.
Dela Rosa, the former head of the Philippine National Police from 2016 to 2018, was the chief implementer of the former president’s flagship war on drugs.
As one of the prime characters in the war on drugs, he too is rumored to be the next target of the ICC arrest.
He however expressed willingness to join his former boss and close ally in prison at The Hague if nothing happens after all legal remedies have been exhausted.
