MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has strengthened its maritime operations with the acquisition of a new ship and 100 STARLINK internet kits, further enhancing its ability to conduct rescue missions, provide humanitarian aid, and maintain seamless communication at sea.

During a turnover ceremony at South Harbor, Manila, the PCG received the M/V Amazing Grace, a vessel donated by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), along with STARLINK kits from SpaceX and two Barracuda Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) from Grab Philippines.

PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said that these new assets is important in improving maritime operations of the country.

“This is very special for us. We recognize the national government support in our quest for a Bagong Pilipinas, where we have to bring public service right at the doorstep of every Filipino,” he said.

The M/V Amazing Grace, previously operated by the PRC, will serve as a vital asset for medical and humanitarian missions, particularly in remote coastal communities. It will also be deployed for disaster response and public service initiatives.

Meanwhile, the 100 STARLINK kits will enhance the PCG’s communication capabilities, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and real-time reporting even in the country’s most isolated waters.

DFNN Executive Chairman Garcia highlighted the impact of these kits on maritime security.

“The STARLINK kits will enable our Coast Guard to enhance its disaster response and security operations across our 7,641-island archipelago,” he said.

Transportation Secretary Dizon also praised the initiative, stressing the significance of private sector support.

“These gracious acts of love and respect from the Red Cross to the PCG is really something,” he said.

In addition, Grab Philippines’ donation of two RHIBs is expected to improve the PCG’s capacity for search and rescue operations, maritime law enforcement, and emergency response.

“This donation underscores our dedication to supporting the brave men and women of the PCG in their mission to safeguard our waters and protect lives,” Vera Cruz said.

PRC Chairman Gordon expressed hope that the new ship would be used effectively, emphasizing the shared humanitarian mission of both organizations.
