MANILA, Philippines — Amid political tensions following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula has called on the faithful to pray the Oratio Imperata for the Nation to seek unity and peace.
In a circular, Advincula instructed all parishes and communities to recite the prayer daily after the post-communion prayer in all Masses, starting on the Third Sunday of Lent.
“The current political situation invites us to transcend our differences and be open to continuous conversion towards truth, justice, and peace,” he said.
Advincula acknowledged the “intense events and discourses” following Duterte’s ongoing case before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and emphasized the power of prayer amid national discord.
“Let us turn to prayer, which is the most fundamental act in our desire for peace, justice, and unity,” he urged.
The Oratio Imperata for the Nation, available in both English and Filipino, asks for God’s guidance in leading the country through crisis. It calls for truth to prevail, justice to be served, and for Filipinos to set aside personal and political interests for the greater good.
“We humble ourselves and pray, in the hope that God will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our broken land,” the cardinal added.
As the nation faces deep divisions, the Archdiocese of Manila hopes this collective act of faith will inspire reconciliation and unity.
