MANILA, Philippines — Authorities from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have taken into custody a Russian social media personality whose recent online antics in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) sparked public outrage.
BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. confirmed the arrest of 33-year-old Vitaly Zdorovetskiy on Thursday morning, citing his designation as an undesirable foreign national due to his viral online behavior.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado noted the Philippines’ reputation for being hospitable to foreign visitors while emphasizing the importance of adhering to local laws and customs.
“The Philippines is open to guests from around the world, but those who take advantage of our hospitality and break our laws will be held accountable,” he said in a statement.
“There is no room for harassment and disruptive conduct in our society, and we will act decisively against violators,” he said.
Zdorovetskiy gained notoriety after uploading videos that showed him harassing Filipinos in public spaces within BGC, drawing widespread criticism from netizens.
A security guard stationed in BGC reportedly filed a complaint with the PNP Southern Police District, alleging harassment, prompting an immediate investigation by CIDG in conjunction with BI operatives. The arrest was carried out under a mission order issued by the BI.
Following his apprehension, Zdorovetskiy was transferred to the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig, where he awaits deportation proceedings.
“Our laws are in place to protect Filipinos,” Viado said.
“This should serve as a clear warning that while we welcome visitors, those who fail to show respect for our people and our regulations will be held accountable,” he said.
