MANILA, Philippines – Actress Claudine Barretto wanted to take part in the wedding of her niece, Claudia Barretto but was not permitted. 

This was among the revelations of comedian Dennis Padilla who cried foul at not being given recognition as the father of the bride but instead was treated only as a “visitor.” 

Just like him, Claudine also wanted to see her niece walk down the aisle despite the family’s long-standing feud. 

Padilla said the award-winning actress called him up gushing in tears asking her older sister Marjorie, whom she’s had very public altercations with, if she can go to the wedding just to give her gift to Claudia. 

“Tumawag siya kagabi sa akin. Nakiusap din pala siya. She had I think two viber messages to Marjorie. Nakikiusap siya na baka pwede naman akong umattend magbibigay lang ako ng gift ko kay Claudia. Pangatlong message niya binura tapos iyak na siya tapos hindi na pumasok ‘yung messages niya,” Padilla told talent manager and showbiz vlogger Ogie Diaz in a phone patch interview aired on his vlog. 

“Kaya iyak siya ng iyak nung gabi,” Padilla said. 

Padilla said he even instructed Claudine to go to the wedding even if she’s not invited and he will sit beside her. 

“Kahapon ng umaga sabi ko Claudine kahit na hindi ka invited, pumunta ka ‘wag ka matakot I’ll sit beside you. Alam mo naman gaano ka-spoiled ‘yan sila Claui, parang anak niya ‘yun eh,” he said.  

“Sobra [crying] kagabi parang hihimatayin,” he told Diaz who asked if the actress cried. 

Before their family feud, Claudine had a very close bond with her nieces and nephews. In the early 2000s, the actress would also be seen or photographed with her siblings’ kids particularly Julia, Claudia, Leon and Dominique, daughter of older sister Gretchen. 

“They grew up with me. You know that. Sila yung bitbit-bitbit ko kahit saan,” Claudine said in a past interview. 

Diaz then sought to clarify the status of sisters Marjorie and Claudine from Padilla. 

“Pagkaunawa ko eh nakikiusap siyang ma-invite eh. Kaya nga ako sabi ko sa kanya kahit hindi ka invited pumunta ka tatabihan kita. Eh kasi kung pumunta siya alangan naman itaboy mo eh si Claudine Barretto ‘yun noh saka tiyahin ‘yun eh, kamag-anak ‘yun eh. Kadugo ‘yun eh,” Padilla said. 

“Pumunta ka kahit di ka invited. Eh ang tapang tapang ko pa naman mabuti na lang pala hindi pumunta. Ang yabang ko pa naman syempre ang feeling ko father of the bride ako eh,” Padilla said.

The wedding was the last straw, according to Padilla who now finally closed his doors to his children with Marjorie. 

“Paalam na sa inyo. This is a permanent goodbye. Maybe the last time that you will see me, sa loob na ng kabaong ko ‘yun,” he said.
