MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is ramping up its road maintenance efforts in anticipation of the expected surge in travelers during the Holy Week.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan confirmed that the agency has reactivated its “Lakbay Alalay” program, which provides roadside assistance to motorists.
The program will involve the mobilization of Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide to ensure the safety and accessibility of national roads, especially along major highways and key transport corridors.
The maintenance activities include repairing potholes, cracks, and other road defects, repainting faded road markings, clearing overgrown vegetation, and replacing damaged or missing road signs.
Secretary Bonoan also directed the strategic scheduling of ongoing road projects to avoid unnecessary delays for travelers. Construction works will be adjusted to minimize traffic disruptions, with a strong emphasis on safety protocols and proper traffic management.
From 8:00 AM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, to 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2025, DPWH will deploy “Lakbay Alalay” teams, composed of uniformed personnel and equipment, at key locations along vital national roads.
These teams will provide assistance to travelers around the clock and will be stationed under blue tents for easy identification.
The public is encouraged to check the DPWH’s social media pages for updates on station locations and travel advisories.
