MANILA, Philippines— The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia has warned Filipinos to beware of fake job offers for chat support or customer service roles in the country, saying many of these listings are tied to illegal operations that exploit workers and involve online scams.

In a recent advisory, the Embassy said it has seen a surge in social media ads—especially on Facebook and Telegram—offering supposedly high-paying overseas jobs as “Customer Service Representatives” or “Chat Support Representatives.” But instead of legitimate employment, many Filipinos end up being used in love scams or fake investment schemes that target unsuspecting victims abroad.

Job offers often promise salaries between USD 800 and USD 1,000, free food and accommodation, and good working conditions.

However, the Embassy said many Filipinos who accepted these offers reported not receiving any formal employment contracts. Some were transported through irregular routes, including via third-country airports or sea channels in southern Philippines, to avoid immigration checks.

“Many have landed in illegal jobs that prey on potential victims,” the Embassy said, warning that even rescued workers often face long waits—sometimes up to three months—before they can be repatriated, depending on the response of host government agencies.

The Embassy reminded the public that it cannot interfere with the internal affairs of Cambodia and must follow diplomatic protocols. It stressed the importance of complying with official procedures of the Philippine government, including those of the Department of Migrant Workers, to ensure the safety of Filipinos abroad.
