MANILA, Philippines — Ten more Filipinos have been safely repatriated from Oddar Meanchey Province in Cambodia, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Saturday, April 20.
The repatriation, facilitated through the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh and Cambodian law enforcement authorities, involved a nine-hour land journey from Oddar Meanchey to Phnom Penh before the group’s flight back to the Philippines.
Representatives from the DFA, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) welcomed the repatriates at the airport and extended immediate assistance.
The DFA said the repatriation flight was covered by its Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Fund. Care packages were also distributed by the Philippine Embassy both upon the group’s arrival at the immigration office in Phnom Penh and during their departure.
The Philippine government expressed gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its cooperation and support in facilitating the safe return of the Filipinos, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
The DFA reiterated its advisory against fraudulent job offers online, warning Filipinos to remain vigilant and discerning in seeking employment opportunities abroad.
“While the Philippine Embassy is always ready to provide Assistance-to-Nationals service, we urge our kababayans to exercise prudence to prevent unfortunate outcomes,” the agency said in a statement.
