MANILA, Philippines – Matet de Leon was sobbing in tears, remorseful for being the “disobedient” child of the late Superstar and National Artist Nora Aunor. 

Matet almost begged off from speaking at the final night of her mother’s wake because she is still “full of regret” over her misunderstandings with her. 

“Hindi naman po lingid sa kaalaman ng lahat na medyo may ano kami ni Mommy. Ako nga po ang, according to her good friends mga nag-aalaga po sa kanya, palagi daw po akong binabaggit ni Mommy as ‘yung anak niyang sutil,” she said.  

“Ako daw ‘yung anak niyang sutil. Meron po kaming mga hindi pagkakaintindihan, maraming times na hindi po kami nakakapag-usap. Mga kapatid ko po nakakausap nila si Mommy pero ako po hindi masyado kaya ayoko pong magsalita, dahil I am still full of regret,” she said. 

It is no secret that Matet and her Superstar mom had very public feuds that made headlines in the past. 

The most recent was in 2022 where the mother and daughter fought over their individual dried fish businesses. 

The former child actress, who then came up with a dried fish brand, aired her frustration that her mother launched a business directly competing with hers. 

In an interview with talent manager turned showbiz vlogger, Matet was quoted to have said, “Hindi ko na siya kakausapin ulit. “Kasi parang sa akin, ginawa ko na ang lahat.”

But during the last moments of her mom, Matet made sure to say everything she wanted her to know. 

Sabi naman din po, huli daw pong nawawala kapag pagpanaw na ‘yung pandinig, sana po narinig niya ko,” she said. 

She then faced the casket of her mother and voiced out her love for the woman who took her in and treated her as her own child. 

“Alam niyo naman na kung ano pong sinabi ko sa inyo Mommy. Mahal na mahal ko po kayo Mommy. Pahinga na po kayo,” she said.
