
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will confer the Presidential Medal of Merit on four prominent Filipino figures in recognition of their significant contributions to the country’s cultural and artistic heritage, Malacañang announced on Wednesday.
Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that the late National Artist for Film Nora Aunor, singer Pilita Corrales, actress Gloria Romero, and chef Margarita Fores will receive the prestigious award in a ceremony scheduled on May 4 at Malacañang Palace.
“The event is confirmed,” Castro said.
All four personalities died this year.
The Presidential Medal of Merit is awarded to individuals who have rendered exceptional service or achievements in their fields, bringing honor to the Philippines.
Aunor, who passed away on April 16, was known for her groundbreaking roles in Philippine cinema, including acclaimed performances in films such as “Himala” and “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos.”
Corrales, Asia’s Queen of Songs, died on April 12. Just five days before Aunor died She was known for her musical career that helped elevate Filipino artists on the international stage.
Romero, who passed away on January 25, was also an award-winning figure in local cinema, having starred in classic films since the 1950s and known for her grace in the film industry.
Meanwhile, Fores, who died on February 11, was a world-renowned chef and restaurateur.
