
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the country’s digital economy grew to P2.25 trillion in 2024, accounting for 8.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The figure reflects a 7.6 percent increase from the P2.09 trillion Gross Value Added recorded in 2023.
In its latest data, the PSA said the digital economy covers transactions under four components: digital-enabling infrastructure, e-commerce, digital content and media, and government digital services.
Digital-enabling infrastructure contributed the largest share at P1.88 trillion. The top industries under this component were professional and business support services (32.7 percent), telecommunication services (24 percent), and ICT manufacturing (16.3 percent).
E-commerce made up 13.5 percent of the total digital economy, followed by digital content and media (2.4 percent), and government digital services (0.3 percent).
In terms of employment, the sector engaged 11.30 million workers in 2024, up 4.8 percent from 10.78 million in 2023. This represented 23.1 percent of the country’s total employment.
E-commerce accounted for the highest share of jobs in the digital economy at 77.9 percent. It was followed by digital-enabling infrastructure (21.4 percent), digital content and media (0.7 percent), and government digital services (0.1 percent).
