Bulacan Rep. Salvador Pleyto

MANILA, Philippines – Rep. Salvador Pleyto of the Sixth District of Bulacan wants to know.

A former ranking DPWH official, Pleyto asked in a statement: “Is it now posing danger to the public, especially to the people of Bulacan?”

Pleyto said he had received reports that the dam’s Gate 3 had been damaged by the hot weather, which caused the compressed air or gas inside to expand and eventually caused a leakage.

Pleyto wanted the Department of Agriculture and the National Irrigation Office to look into the reports, do some investigation, and find out if it needed urgent repairs and replacement of parts.

“Make a thorough structural integrity investigation on the Bustos Dam,” asked Pleyto, a civil engineer.

Try to find out, he said: Do we have something to worry about?

The Bustos Dam is also called the Angat Afterbay Regulator Dam located at Barangay Tibagan, Bustos, Bulacan, served by the Angat River. Pleyto, who is a licensed civil engineer himself, expressed apprehension if the other gates will also be damaged.
