Screen grab from Sen. Imee Marcos’ political ad

No holds barred.

In a political ad released three days before the May 12 elections, Sen. Imee Marcos blatantly said that her brother, President Marcos Jr. had already lost control of the government and the command is now under Romualdez and the Araneta.

“Ang gobyerno ngayon ay hindi Marcos. Ang gobyerno ngayon ay Romualdez at Araneta,” she said in an apparent swipe at her cousin House Speaker Martin Romualdez and sister-in-law First Lady Liza Marcos.

The reelectionist senator defended that she will not change her surname as joked by Vice President Sara Duterte who turned from ally to enemy of her brother. Following this narrative, Marcos said a true Marcos will never enter into an alliance with politicians who oppressed your family.

“Marcos ako. I’m me. Ako ay ako. Ako ay si Imee Marcos. At kapag Marcos ka, hindi ka makikipag-alyansa sa mga politikong nagbintang, nagdiin, at umapi sa iyong pamilya. Hindi mo kakainin ang isinuka mo para lamang sa politika. Hindi ganyan ang legasya ng aking ama,” she said.

“Imported na ang bigas, imported pa ang hustisya. Kaya malinaw, ang gobyerno ngayon ay hindi Marcos. Ang gobyerno ngayon ay Romualdez at Araneta,” she said.

Marcos and her brother had been at odds over conflicting beliefs in many of the administration’s moves. The elder Marcos had repeatedly said that she had taken the side of the Dutertes because what was done to the family, particularly the vice president’s impeachment and the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte were wrong.

In the Senate probe she launched, she blatantly concluded that there were glaring violations of the constitutional rights of the former president and a whole-of-government cover-up being done to evade accountability.

Even prior to the former president’s arrest, Marcos had openly criticised certain moves of the government particularly the People’s Initiative on changing the Constitution and the “very very bad” 2025 national budget.

She also publicly declared that she will block any attempt to have the vice president arrested with everything she has in the event a warrant for her arrest gets issued too by the International Criminal Court.

The president in brief but bold words said he disagrees with the claims of his sister.
