MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Monday rallied Filipinos to vote with integrity, reflection, and national pride as the country holds its midterm elections on May 12.

In a statement issued on election day, Romualdez framed the vote as more than a civic responsibility — calling it a “solemn act of democracy” that gives every citizen the power to influence the country’s future.

“When you cast your vote, you are not merely fulfilling a civic duty but taking part in a solemn act of democracy,” Romualdez said.

“Your ballot is a declaration of conscience, a quiet but resolute affirmation of your role in building our nation,” he said.

Romualdez appealed to the electorate to approach the polls with thoughtfulness and respect for the democratic process, saying that each vote symbolizes a commitment to peace, order, and the rule of law.

“Piliin natin ang katahimikan, kaayusan, at paggalang sa proseso,” he said.

“Sa bawat pagboto, ipinapakita natin ang ating malasakit sa bayan at ang ating hangaring mapanatiling matatag ang demokrasya,” he said.

He also urged Filipinos to honor the sacrifices of past generations by participating responsibly in the electoral process — with discipline, vigilance, and dignity.

“Let us protect the sanctity of this process. With each vote, we renew our shared responsibility for the direction of our nation,” Romualdez said.

The midterm elections will determine key national and local leaders, including half of the Senate, all district representatives, and officials in cities, provinces, and municipalities nationwide.

Romualdez concluded his message with a rousing call to unity, encouraging voters to reflect on the significance of their choices and to act with a sense of collective purpose.
