MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed openness to reconciling with the Duterte family, saying he does not want conflict and prefers unity to ensure national stability.
In the maiden episode of the BBM Podcast, Marcos was asked whether he still wishes to mend ties with the Dutertes, given that Vice President Sara Duterte was his running mate in the 2022 elections.
“Oo. Ako, ayaw ko ng gulo. Gusto ko makasundo sa lahat ng tao. Mas maganda,” the President said.
The President’s statement comes amid recent sharp remarks from Vice President Duterte criticizing key events under the Marcos administration.
Marcos said he values cooperation over division and emphasized the importance of having allies to support the government’s work. “Hindi ko kailangan ng kaaway. Kailangan ko kaibigan,” he said.
He added that his priority is to maintain political stability and a peaceful environment to allow his administration to deliver on its promises to the public.
“Hangga’t maaari, ako, ang habol ko ay ‘yung stability, peaceful para magawa namin ‘yung trabaho namin,” Marcos said.
He also reiterated his willingness to work with individuals who may not agree with his policies, as long as there is mutual respect and collaboration.
“I’m always open to any approach na, ‘halika, magtulungan tayo.’ Kahit na hindi tayo magkasundo sa polisiya… gawin mo ‘yung trabaho mo pero huwag na tayong nanggugulo,” he said.
“Huwag na natin – tanggalin natin ‘yung gulo,” Marcos added.
