KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday brushed off calls for his resignation, saying there is no reason for him to step down as he remains committed to solving the country’s problems.

“I will resign? Ba’t ko gagawin ’yun?” Marcos said in response to a reporter’s question at the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit.

“Wala sa ugali ko ang tinatakbuhan ang problema. What good will that do?” he said.

The President made the remark amid ongoing changes in his Cabinet following his directive for all Cabinet members to submit courtesy resignations last week—a move he said is part of a broader government revamp to boost efficiency.

Marcos clarified that the reshuffle is not a political gimmick but a serious effort to enhance his administration’s performance.

“It’s a solution-oriented leadership. We want to address issues head-on,” he said.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin earlier confirmed that two Cabinet resignations have been accepted, while the administration’s economic team remains intact.

Marcos also revealed that a “rigorous performance review” will be carried out across government, not just within the Cabinet.

The President is scheduled to return to the Philippines early Wednesday following his two-day participation in the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
