MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday launched the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) “Pamilya Pass 1+3 Promo,” a new fare scheme that allows four passengers to ride the MRT-3, LRT-1, or LRT-2 for the price of one ticket every Sunday.
The launch was held at the GMA-Kamuning station of the MRT-3. In his speech, Marcos said the initiative aims to ease the cost of transportation for groups and encourage families to spend time together.
“Ang kultura ng Pilipino, ang Linggo para sa pamilya. Kaya gumawa kami ng 1+3 program. Basta’t bibili ka ng isang ticket, puwede nang sumakay ang apat,” the President said.
Under the program, commuters who purchase one regular fare ticket every Sunday are entitled to bring three companions at no additional cost. The DOTr said the scheme is designed to reduce expenses for families and groups traveling together.
Marcos boarded a northbound MRT train with First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and their sons — Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos, Joseph Simon, and William Vincent. He later joked that since they were a group of five, his eldest son had to pay separately.
“Si Congressman Sandro nagbayad ng sarili niyang ticket,” Marcos said.
Transportation Secretary Vivencio Dizon and Presidential Communications Office Secretary Jay Ruiz also joined the trip, which ended at the North Avenue station.
The Pamilya Pass is available only on Sundays and covers all three major rail lines in Metro Manila.
