MANILA, Philippines — Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo saw his reign in the vault and parallel bars come to a close after securing bronze medals in both events at the 12th Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships held Sunday, June 8, in Jecheon, South Korea.

In a media report, it said that Yulo, 25, finished third in the vault — an apparatus where he is the reigning Olympic champion — with an average score of 14.333. He posted 14.533 in his first attempt and 14.133 in his second.

Iran’s Mahdi Olfati clinched gold with 14.500, while China’s Huang Mingqi settled for silver with 14.400. Olfati had earlier led the qualifiers and previously earned silver at the 2022 Asian Games.

Later in the day, Yulo added another bronze to his collection in the parallel bars, scoring 14.166. Japanese gymnasts Oka Shinnosuke and Tomoharu Tsunogai took gold and silver with 14.700 and 14.466, respectively. Shinnosuke also recently topped the individual all-around event.

With these two bronzes, Yulo now has four medals in the competition, including a gold in the floor exercise on June 7 and a bronze in the individual all-around on June 6. He placed seventh in the rings final and is still in contention in the horizontal bar event as the last qualifier.

Southeast Asian Games gold medalist John Ivan Cruz, Yulo’s teammate, also competed in the vault final, finishing sixth with a score of 14.150.
