MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has extended his warm congratulations to Lee Jae-Myung on his victory in the South Korean presidential elections held on June 4.

In a statement, President Marcos expressed his anticipation of further strengthening the bilateral relations between South Korea and the Philippines. “On behalf of the Filipino people, I congratulate Lee Jae-Myung on his election as President of the Republic of Korea,” President Marcos said.

“The Philippines values its deep and enduring ties with the ROK and I look forward to working with him further to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between our two countries,” he added.

Lee’s election comes six months after his predecessor’s term was marked by political turmoil.

The Philippines and South Korea have elevated their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership, fostering deeper economic cooperation. This partnership is further bolstered by the Philippines-Korea Free Trade Agreement, which aims to enhance economic relations through tariff reductions and eliminations on key products, thereby creating more opportunities for trade and investment.

Formal diplomatic relations between the two nations were established on March 3, 1949, marking a long-standing partnership built on mutual respect and shared values.
