MANILA, Philippines — The proposed wage hike bill is effectively dead after both the Senate and House of Representatives adjourned sine die without reconciling their differing versions of the measure.

Lawmakers from both chambers failed to reach a consensus, with neither side agreeing to adopt the other’s version nor convene a bicameral conference committee.

As a result, no wage increase—neither the Senate-proposed P100 hike nor the House-endorsed P200 adjustment—will be enacted during the current Congress.

The bill’s collapse marks a major setback for efforts to legislate across-the-board increases in the daily minimum wage.

Earlier, economic managers have warned that passing the bill would hurt the economy and would result to higher inflation.
