MANILA, Philippines — Senator Win Gatchalian on Thursday reminded taxpayers to take advantage of the extended estate tax amnesty program before it expires on June 16, 2025, emphasizing the opportunity to legalize inherited properties and boost economic productivity.
“I am hoping taxpayers who are qualified would avail of the extended tax amnesty program as this would give them the chance to legalize their ownership of inherited properties and the opportunity to use such assets for economic purposes,” Gatchalian said.
The amnesty program was extended under Republic Act No. 11956, which Gatchalian principally authored and sponsored. The law amended the Tax Amnesty Act to give heirs, transferees, and beneficiaries the chance to settle estate tax obligations without penalties or interest.
Although the original deadline falls on June 14, a Saturday, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) extended the final filing date to Monday, June 16.
Under the law, filings may be done manually or electronically through authorized agent banks or the Bureau’s Revenue District Offices. Taxpayers are also allowed to pay in installments to encourage wider compliance.
“May panahon pa para makapagbayad sila ng kaukulang buwis ng walang dagdag na bayad dahil hindi na nila kailangang magbayad ng penalty at interes,” Gatchalian added.
The senator also pointed out that the law supports the government’s revenue collection efforts, helping generate funds for poverty-alleviation and other social programs.
