MANILA, Philippines — Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the revocation of the franchise of Taxihub Transport and the suspension and eventual cancellation of the driver’s license of a taxi driver caught on video overcharging a passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
“Under the order of the President himself, I am directing the LTO and LTFRB to conduct operations at our airports, specifically at NAIA, against these taxis that prey on our kababayan and tourists,” Dizon said.
The viral video showed a passenger being charged P1,200 for a ride between Terminals 2 and 3 — a fare Dizon called excessive and abusive. “Kalokohan na ‘yun, pang-aabuso na ‘yan,” he said.
Dizon also directed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to intensify operations targeting abusive taxi drivers at transport hubs nationwide.
Further investigation revealed that Taxihub Transport’s franchise had expired in March. Dizon ordered the revocation of all 15 of its units and announced that appropriate charges would be filed against the operator.
“Operators are given franchises to serve the public, but with that comes responsibility. If you violate the rules, you will face the consequences,” he added.
