MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a motorcycle taxi driver accused of overcharging a passenger in another viral incident near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The LTO imposed a 90-day suspension on the rider’s license while an investigation is ongoing.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the action was taken under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.

“Our DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon is leading the charge against these abusive PUV drivers since that viral incident at the NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport). He already learned about this another case and he wants to impose the sanctions on this rider,” said Mendoza.

Initial investigation showed the rider charged a passenger PHP2,000 for a trip from NAIA Terminal 3 to Cainta, Rizal.

The incident went viral online and was flagged by the LTO’s social media monitoring team, prompting swift action from transport authorities.

A Show Cause Order (SCO) was issued by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division Chief Renante Melitante, requiring the registered owner of the motorcycle to explain why they should not be held liable. Investigators are also determining whether the registered owner was the actual driver during the incident.

According to Mendoza, the driver is facing a case for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Section 27 of Republic Act No. 4136, which carries the maximum penalty of license revocation.
