MANILA, Philippines — Addressing community needs is now faster and more efficient with over 7,000 barangays across the country adopting a digital platform that streamlines daily operations and centralizes records, Malacañang said Tuesday.
In a Palace briefing, Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Press Officer Claire Castro said the Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s broader push for full government digitalization.
“Para sa hakbang patungo sa full government digitalization ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., umabot na sa 7,083 barangays, o 16.9 percent ang may access sa BIMS,” Castro said.
The BIMS allows barangays to provide faster, more organized, and transparent services by maintaining accurate digital records. These records help ensure timely assistance, efficient transactions, and responsive local governance.
Launched in 2024 under the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Local Government Unit Support System (DILG-LGUSS), the system enables barangays to encode, store, and retrieve critical data such as household profiles, individual records, deaths, barangay officials, and records of complaints or inquiries.
Castro said the DILG aims to expand BIMS access further this year. So far, 11,658 barangays, or 27.7 percent, have already been oriented on the system.
“Layunin ng DILG na magkaroon ng mas mabilis, mas efficient at data-driven na barangay governance sa buong bansa sa ilalim ng BIMS program ng ahensya,” she added.
