MANILA — Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced on the resumption of its nonstop flights between Manila and Sapporo, Japan beginning November 24, marking the flag carrier’s return to the route after a four-year hiatus.
The thrice-weekly service will run until March 27, 2026, and will be offered seasonally every winter from November to March, utilizing a 168-seater Airbus A321neo every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
“This route not only provides a convenient travel option for Filipino tourists and overseas workers, but also opens doors for Japanese travelers to explore and experience the Philippines’ vibrant culture and warm hospitality,” said PAL President Richard Nuttall in a statement.
He added that the route’s reopening will help strengthen bilateral relations and cultural ties between the Philippines and Japan.
PAL previously operated the route from December 2018 to March 2020, before suspending operations.
Sapporo, known for its winter attractions and the Sapporo Snow Festival, is a top destination during Japan’s colder months.
In January, Cebu Pacific also launched thrice-weekly flights between Manila and New Chitose International Airport, with Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya attending the inaugural ceremony to promote tourism to Hokkaido.
