MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued show cause orders (SCOs) to the registered owners of six sports cars involved in a viral street racing video in Tagaytay City, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to crack down on erring motorists.
LTO Acting Chief Atty. Greg Pua said the agency has placed the vehicles under alarm and is now working to identify the individuals who drove them during the incident, which he described as a serious threat to public safety.
The six vehicles involved include two Mazda MX-5 units, a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Z, a Chevrolet Camaro, and a BMW M4.
“The SCOs were already issued to them. And part of this process is for them to identify and bring with them the drivers of these sports cars. It could be the registered owners themselves or other individuals. They won’t escape accountability because we have the video,” Pua said.
He stressed that racing on public roads is a misuse of infrastructure meant for safe and comfortable public mobility. “There are proper venues for those activities. Public roads are not made for reckless drivers like the ones seen in the viral video,” he added.
The SCOs, signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division Chief Renante Melitante, require vehicle owners to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and for being improper persons to operate motor vehicles.
Melitante also said that once the drivers are identified, a 90-day suspension of their driver’s licenses will be immediately imposed.
Owners have also been instructed to present the registration and related documents of the sports cars for verification.
“This is a warning—we will not tolerate this behavior on the road, whether you drive a sports car, motorcycle, or tricycle,” Pua said. “Follow traffic rules every day to avoid problems with the LTO.”
