MANILA — Senator Bam Aquino called on authorities to investigate a scam video generated through artificial intelligence (AI) that falsely shows him endorsing a fake government-backed investment platform.
The AI-generated video, which has been circulating on social media, features a popular female news anchor introducing Aquino’s alleged support for a so-called “national platform for inclusive financial growth.” The fake initiative falsely claims that investors can earn up to ₱175,000 per week with a minimum investment of ₱15,000.
Aquino also appealed to social media platforms to remove the video to stop it from misleading the public and victimizing more people.
To address the growing misuse of deepfake technology, Aquino said he is preparing to file a bill that would criminalize the use of another person’s image or likeness in AI-generated content meant to deceive or defraud others.
