MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has officially launched the online renewal of driver’s licenses through the eGovPH mobile application, allowing motorists to renew their licenses remotely without visiting physical LTO offices.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, said the move aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s push to digitize all government transactions and was carried out under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.
“This is a better alternative for going to LTO offices since you don’t need to shell out money for transportation to our offices and don’t even need to queue in any license renewal offices,” Mendoza said.
To renew a license via the eGovPH app, users must:
- Download and install the eGovPH app via App Store or Google Play.
- Locate the NGA icon, select LTO, and click “Online Driver’s Application.”
- Choose “Renew Your Driver’s License.”
- Upload or capture the front and back of the physical driver’s license.
- Wait 1 to 3 minutes for system validation.
- Review and verify details, then submit.
- Take a photo following the app’s standard format guidelines.
Before starting the process, applicants must complete the following requirements:
- Telemedicine Medical Examination: Book and finish an online consultation through the LTO ODLRS portal.
- Online Driver’s Enhancement Program (DEP): Complete the five-hour online education course on the ODLRS portal.
Once requirements are met, users can proceed with online payment by selecting a preferred payment gateway and paying the renewal fee.
Mendoza said a successful transaction automatically renews the driver’s license, with an electronic version of the license generated in the app. The digital license holds the same validity as a physical card.
Clients also have the option to book a courier for delivery or pick up the physical license from a nearby LTO district office.
“All of these digitalization efforts are intended to make all transactions in the LTO fast and comfortable to all our clients as instructed by President Marcos through Secretary Dizon,” Mendoza said, adding that the agency is continuously improving and expanding its digital services, including to Filipinos abroad.
In 2023, Mendoza led the launch of LTO’s online driver’s license application service in Taiwan.
