MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of a social media personality known as “Cherry White” after a viral video showed her engaging in unsafe driving practices that could endanger road users.

The move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to crack down on erring motorists and promote road safety, according to LTO Acting Assistant Secretary Greg G. Pua Jr. and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.

Pua said the viral video showed the vlogger driving in a lounging posture, with one leg raised onto the driver’s seat, appearing disengaged from proper vehicle operation.

“The information we received was that this personality has a strong following on social media and the video showing her unsafe driving practice is dangerous since it could be misinterpreted that it is okay to do that,” Pua said.

The LTO issued a Show Cause Order (SCO), requiring the vlogger to explain why she should not be held liable under Section 27(a) of Republic Act No. 4136 for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, as well as for reckless driving. She was also directed to appear before the LTO Central Office in Quezon City.

Due to the gravity of the offense, Cherry White’s driver’s license (No. D19-14-004834) has been preventively suspended for 90 days. “Accordingly, you are directed to SURRENDER your driver’s license on or before the scheduled hearing to formally commence the period of suspension,” the SCO stated.

Pua added that the vehicle involved in the video has also been placed under alarm while the case remains under investigation.
