MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Israel confirmed the death of Leah Mosquera, a 49-year-old Filipina caregiver from Negros Occidental, who succumbed to severe injuries sustained during an Iranian missile attack in Rehovot on June 15.

Mosquera passed away on the morning of July 13 after weeks of fighting for her life at the Intensive Care Unit of Shamir Medical Center, where she underwent multiple surgeries. Her sister Joy, who also works in Israel, had been by her side throughout her hospitalization and shared the news of her passing.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Philippine Embassy in Israel announces that Ms. Leah Mosquera… passed away this morning due to severe injuries she sustained when an Iranian missile struck her Rehovot apartment on 15 June,” the Embassy said in a statement.

Lovingly known as “Ate Leah,” Mosquera was set to celebrate her 50th birthday on July 29. She had worked in Israel for many years and was remembered for her dedication to supporting her family in the Philippines—a testament, the Embassy noted, to the courage and sacrifice of overseas Filipino workers.

The Embassy extended its condolences to the Mosquera family and expressed gratitude to first responders, medical personnel, clergy, and members of the Filipino community who supported Leah and her sister during the ordeal.

Repatriation arrangements and all necessary assistance for Mosquera are now being handled by the Embassy.

“As we mourn her passing and remember her life, the Embassy also renews its call for the protection of civilians, including foreign workers, during times of conflict,” the statement added.
