MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has revoked the license of a lawyer over multiple extramarital affairs and sexual misconduct involving his household staff, citing grossly immoral conduct that violates the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA).
In a 24-page per curiam decision, the SC en banc ordered the lawyer’s disbarment for grossly immoral behavior, including entering into a bigamous marriage, fathering two illegitimate children, and committing acts of sexual harassment against his house helper and law secretary.
Though the High Court did not name the lawyer, it said he admitted to having affairs with at least three women during his marriage and to engaging in sexually explicit conversations with his staff while displaying pornographic materials.
“In a Per Curiam Decision, the Supreme Court En Banc has disbarred a lawyer for grossly immoral conduct, in violation of the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability,” the SC said.
Under Canon VI, Section 33(f) of the CPRA, grossly immoral conduct includes acts so corrupt or deceitful that they amount to criminal offenses.
The Court imposed the maximum penalty of disbarment for the first two counts of grossly immoral conduct. It also imposed suspensions for the remaining counts, but noted these could no longer take effect due to the disbarment.
The lawyer was also fined over P400,001.
“The penalties for the second to fourth counts of Grossly Immoral Conduct will be seriously considered if he applies for reinstatement and judicial clemency,” the Court said.
