MANILA — The Philippine population has reached 112,729,484 as of July 1, 2024, according to the 2024 Census of Population (2024 POPCEN) released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
This figure was declared official through Proclamation No. 973 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on July 11, 2025, in accordance with the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 and Executive Order No. 87, s. 2025.
The total population includes Filipinos residing in the 18 administrative regions of the country and those living abroad under the care of Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions.
Compared to the 109.04 million recorded in the 2020 Census of Population and Housing, the population increased by 3.69 million. However, the PSA noted a significant decline in the population growth rate (PGR) from 1.63% annually between 2015 and 2020 to 0.80% annually from 2020 to 2024.
The PSA attributed the slowdown to multiple factors, including declining fertility and birth rates, higher mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic, and reduced migration activity.
Region IV-A (CALABARZON) remains the most populous region with 16.93 million people, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 14.00 million and Region III (Central Luzon) with 12.99 million. These three regions combined account for 39% of the national population.
The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) posted the lowest population with 1.81 million or about 1.6% of the country’s total.
Out of the 18 regions, 16 recorded slower annual population growth from 2020 to 2024 compared to the previous five-year period. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) was the only region to post an increase in growth rate at 3.43%, making it the fastest-growing region.
Region III (Central Luzon) followed with 1.08%, Region IV-A (CALABARZON) with 1.07%, NCR with 0.91%, and Region X (Northern Mindanao) with 0.73%.
Region V (Bicol) was the only region to record a population decline, posting a negative growth rate of -0.07%.
