MANILA – A Filipino seafarer who sustained serious work-related injuries onboard a vessel in the United States has received urgent medical and welfare assistance through the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) AKSYON Fund, the agency announced Friday.

The Migrant Workers Office in Los Angeles (MWO-LA) extended immediate financial support to the seafarer to cover hospitalization and treatment costs following a critical onboard accident. The aid was provided under the DMW’s Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) program.

In coordination with the seafarer’s employer, licensed manning agency (LMA), and U.S. government agencies, MWO-LA facilitated a life-saving medical operation soon after the incident.

“Our OFWs will have support in times of need, whether they be on land or at sea,” said Labor Attaché Macy Monique Maglanque. “This assistance reflects the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac to ensure the prompt protection and welfare of distressed OFWs.”

Maglanque, together with Assistant Labor Attaché Maria Corazon Venus Abad, visited the seafarer and assured him of continued support from the Philippine government.

Once medically cleared, the seafarer will be repatriated to the Philippines, with all related costs to be shouldered by the employer and LMA.
