MANILA – The remains of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Leah Mosquera, who was killed in an Iranian missile strike in Rehovot, Israel last June, arrived in the Philippines, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed.

Mosquera, who worked as a caregiver in Israel for several years, was among the casualties in the June 15 attack. Her remains were received by her grieving family at the airport, joined by Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, Israel Ambassador Ilan Fluss, and representatives from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

“We extend our deepest sympathy to the Mosquera family. Rest assured that the DMW and OWWA will continue to provide all forms of assistance during this time of grief as directed by our President,” Secretary Cacdac said.

The DMW and OWWA, in coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, shouldered the full cost of repatriating Mosquera’s remains, as well as the return of her sister, who is also an OFW.

Financial and burial assistance, along with other forms of support, will also be extended to the family.

Before the repatriation, the Philippine Embassy in Israel and the DMW Migrant Workers Office in Tel Aviv led a commemoration ceremony and mass to honor Mosquera’s life and service.

Mosquera’s death has been mourned nationwide, with government officials remembering her as not only a dedicated caregiver but also a modern-day hero.
